With the Pittsburgh Steelers’ first preseason game just days away, the team conducted another training camp session at St. Vincent College. Prior to the start of practice, Head Coach Mike Tomlin announced the signing of journeyman quarterback Logan Woodside, a move likely made in response to the injury sustained by rookie Will Howard.
Among today’s training camp storylines: a brief injury scare involving a standout wide receiver, a veteran quarterback showcasing some flair, and yet another batted pass from a defensive tackle's towering presence.
So, Steelers fans, let's go!
Injury Report
In addition to the signing of Logan Woodside, the Steelers also announced that the majority of their starters will not participate in the upcoming preseason matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Given the recent spate of injuries sustained over the past several days, the decision to rest key players appears both prudent and inevitable.
The team also added veteran offensive lineman Andrus Peat to shore up depth following Calvin Anderson’s injury.
The current injury report includes cornerback Cory Trice (hamstring), linebacker Alex Highsmith (groin), wide receiver Calvin Austin III (undisclosed), and rookie cornerback Donte Kent (ankle/foot).
Day 13 Camp Notes -
Roman Wilson’s Injury Scare
With injuries mounting, the Steelers could scarcely afford to lose another wide receiver. During practice, rookie Roman Wilson gave the team a brief scare when he was spotted receiving attention from trainers following a drill. Fortunately for Pittsburgh, Wilson returned to action shortly thereafter and was seen catching passes during team sessions.
Rodgers Gets Fancy
During team drills, quarterback Aaron Rodgers showcased his trademark flair, delivering a sidearm pass that connected with rookie Roman Wilson—arguably the standout performer over the past three days of training camp. The play served as a strong indicator that Rodgers is growing increasingly comfortable within the offense and may be returning to vintage form.
Broderick Jones Showing Progress in Camp
After a challenging start to training camp, offensive tackle Broderick Jones appears to be trending in the right direction. This week, the second-year lineman has made noticeable strides in refining his technique and has delivered a solid stretch of practices, drawing positive attention from coaches and teammates alike.
Yahya Black Continues to Disrupt Passing Lanes
Rookie defensive tackle Yahya Black has consistently demonstrated an ability to deflect passes at the line of scrimmage throughout training camp. On Tuesday, the 6-foot-6, 330-pound lineman recorded his third batted pass during team drills, reinforcing his reputation as a disruptive presence in the trenches.
