The team was back on the grind on Sunday.
With less than a week remaining until the Steelers' first preseason game of 2025, the team returned to the field at St. Vincent College for a padded training camp session.
Today's training camp storylines feature Miller's ascent, a near-complete defensive sweep, and a linebacker returning
to a familiar position.
So, Steelers fans, let's go!
Injury Report
Rookie cornerback Donte Kent has been newly added to the injury list. According to a report by Nick Farabaugh of PennLive, Kent was observed wearing a walking boot on his right leg, suggesting a possible ankle or foot injury.
In addition to Donte Kent, wide receiver Calvin Austin III did not participate in today’s practice due to an undisclosed ailment. Cornerbacks Cory Trice Jr. (hamstring) and Joey Porter Jr. (undisclosed), along with offensive lineman Calvin Anderson (soft tissue), were also absent for the second consecutive day. Defensive tackle Esezi Otomewo remains sidelined with a knee injury sustained more than four days ago.
Following today's session, head Mike Tomlin announced that linebacker Alex Highsmith injured his groin during the team's one-on-one drills.
On a more positive note, tight end/fullback DJ Thomas-Jones returned to practice after missing time last week due to injury.
Day 10 Camp Notes -
Miller Trending Upwards
Since Week 1, wide receiver Scotty Miller has been one of the most efficient and consistent performers throughout training camp. On this particular day, Miller delivered an impressive showing during 2-on-2 drills, beating both safety Chuck Clark and cornerback Cam McCutcheon for touchdowns. He later added a third reception during team sessions for a significant gain, followed by a fourth catch during 7-on-7s.
Defense Dominates the Offense In "Seven Shots"
For the third consecutive practice, the Steelers' offense defeated the defense in the "Seven Shots" drill. On this day, however, the defense responded in dominant fashion, winning by a score of 6–1. If not for a lone touchdown by running back Evan Hull, it would have been a clean sweep.
Metcalf Has Himself A Day
Whether in one-on-one drills or full team sessions, wide receiver D.K. Metcalf was a force to be reckoned with—and the defense felt it. The All-Pro delivered a standout performance, consistently demonstrating his trademark physicality, precise route-running, and dynamic playmaking ability throughout the day.
Jones Making A Name For Himself
One player who has flown under the radar during training camp is offensive lineman Steven Jones. In today’s practice, he recorded a pancake block during the team session. Given his ability to play multiple positions along the offensive line, Jones is steadily building a compelling case for a spot on the final roster.
Defensive Line Shows Out
If one thing has become clear during training camp, it's the depth and strength of the Steelers' defensive line, which delivered a standout performance in stopping the run on this particular day.
Robinson At Fullback
Before transitioning to linebacker at Ole Miss, Mark Robinson originally played as a running back. During a goal-line drill late in the session, Robinson was spotted lining up at fullback. According to Farabaugh’s report, the team has approached him about potentially taking on the role.
