2025 Steelers Camp Recap - Day 7 Notes

ree

Early mornings can be challenging, but on this particular day, they were essential.

With the threat of afternoon thunderstorms approaching Latrobe, PA, the Steelers adjusted their schedule, moving practice to the morning at St. Vincent College. As anticipated, the team returned to the field in shorts and shoulder pads—likely in preparation for what promises to be a physical "Friday Night Lights" session tomorrow evening.

Today's practice extended beyond two hours, with veteran players receiving the day off.

Key storylines from this morning’s training camp included a highlight-reel catch by a wide receiver and a spirited exchange between the secondary and offensive units.

So, Steelers fans, let's go!

Injury Report

The team received encouraging news on the injury front with the return of veteran guard Isaac Seumalo, who was activated from the non-football injury list.

In yesterday's pad session, defensive tackle Esezi Otomewo sustained a knee injury that will keep him out for an indefinite period of time. As reported by Aaron Wilson of KPRC, the Steelers worked out former Seahawks defensive tackle Cameron Young. Along the defensive line, both Jacob Slade and veteran Dean Lowry went down with knee injuries during today's session.

Day 7 Camp Notes -

Wilson Gets One Over Porter Jr.

Following a strong performance on Day 6, cornerback Joey Porter Jr. faced a setback during one-on-one drills, where he was outmaneuvered by wide receiver Roman Wilson. According to reports, Porter Jr. appeared visibly frustrated after being beaten again during the session.

Things Get Heated

With intense competition often comes conflict. Throughout this year’s training camp, both the offense and defense have been highly vocal, leading to occasional altercations. During one particular sequence, tight end Jonnu Smith got the better of safety Juan Thornhill, sparking a brief scuffle for the second consecutive day.

A Scrappy Secondary

Continuing with the day’s combative tone, the Steelers’ secondary came ready to battle—both verbally and physically. Whether it was Juan Thornhill, Jalen Ramsey, or Chuck Clark, the group was noticeably more aggressive, engaging in spirited trash talk and showing a clear willingness to mix it up with anyone on the offensive side.

Roc Making Big Plays

Undrafted free agent wide receiver Roc Taylor continues to elevate his stock. Last week, he consistently made plays—most notably on Day 4, when he recorded three receptions during team sessions. On this day, it was rookie quarterback Will Howard who connected with Taylor on a 75-yard touchdown, further solidifying the receiver’s growing impact.

Later on, he would make more plays during 7-on-7s.

Rookie Howard Getting Comfortable

After the day rookie quarterback Will Howard had, one might assume he's closing in on Mason Rudolph’s No. 2 spot. In reality, he’s not quite there yet—but what is clear is that he’s adjusting well. Howard continues to show poise while making smart, efficient plays.
