2026 Steelers Training Camp - Day 7 Recap

After going through their "mock game" practice yesterday, the Steelers returned to the field at St. Vincent College for their seventh day of training camp.

Today's training camp storylines includes - injuries out of nowhere, a solid day for the defense, and a safety making plays everywhere.

So, Steelers fans, let's go!

Injury report

Both defensive lineman Logan Lee and cornerback Donte Kent were again without pads; their return timeline remains unknown. Also newly unpadded were rookie running back Eli Heidenreich and offensive lineman Steven Jones, both seen working on the sidelines without pads.

One of the notable injury updates involved Steelers rookie tackle Max Iheanachor, who was being attended to by trainers. A later update indicated that the trainer was tending to his shoulder and neck area. By all updates, he did not participate for the remainder of the session.

Later in the session, standout cornerback Brandon Echols was seen down after covering receiver Roman Wilson during a team period.

As of today, the Steelers officially signed former Dallas Cowboys defensive back Israel Mukuamu after releasing rookie UDFA cornerback Amari Harvey.

A Solid Day For the Run Defense

On Day 6, the offense got the better of the defensive unit, as several running backs found openings and broke off big runs. Day 7 was the opposite, with the defensive front tightening up against the run and registering multiple stops and tackles for loss throughout the session.

Fights at Camp

So far, there had been little occurrence of fighting during this year’s training camp—until today. The incident took place during a team session between linebacker Payton Wilson and receiver Ben Skowronek.

It was later reported of a scuffled between running back Lew Nichols and defensive back D’Shawn Jamison. Perhaps much of chipping on this day stemmed from the release of the team's depth chart yesterday.

Rodgers Finding his Groove

In the midst of the fighting and injuries, veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers delivered arguably his best day of training camp, much of it coming through repeated connections with receiver DK Metcalf, who was virtually uncoverable on Day 7 alongside Roman Wilson.

Brisker The Playmaker

If there were a pick for the day’s top performer, it would likely be safety Jaquan Brisker. To say the least, Brisker was ubiquitous on the field making plays—unfortunately, one of them involved a dropped interception. Nonetheless, he was big reason for the defense’s success throughout all the team sessions.
