Steelers rookie Drew Allar was among the first players to make his way onto the field at St. Vincent College for the team’s third day of training camp. Even with the group practicing without helmets, the session proved eventful.
Today's training camp storylines include a rookie running with the first-team and a head coach giving his young QBs some attention.
So, Steelers fans, let's go!
Injury Report
No updates is always good news on the injury front. So far, no new updates to report. The following players remain on the team's PUP list:
Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (unknown)
Cornerback Jalen Ramsey (Knee)
Cornerback Donte Kent (Knee)
Rodgers Working Under Center
One of the many things veteran QB Aaron Rodgers noted that he wanted to do this season was operate under center more frequently. So far in the first two days of training camp, Rodgers has been able to achieve that - it was no different on Day 3.
Rookie Bernard with the First-team
It was bound to happen, and on this day it finally did. According to multiple updates, rookie receiver Germie Bernard logged snaps with the first-team offense during several team intervals — many of them out of the slot. It offered a potential glimpse into how the staff envisions using him as the season approaches.
Young QBs Getting Attention
What was noticed on this day was the amount of attention both quarterbacks Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar were receiving from head coach Mike McCarthy. According to reports, he followed both of them to the second field during the second team session. This should become a common theme during this year's camp.
Spreading The Ball Around
Though the day functioned largely as a walkthrough for both starters and backups, the quarterbacks again delivered a solid showing, distributing the ball cleanly to a range of targets much as they did on Day 2. Rookie running back Eli Heidenreich punched in two touchdowns during team sessions.
