2026 Steelers Training Camp - Day 2 Recap

After an eventful opening day, the Steelers returned to the field at St. Vincent College for their second training camp session. Today’s camp storyline includes a QB2 performance standing out, kickers showing their stuff, and a rookie cornerback on the receiving end of a highlight‑reel play.

Injury Report -

The good news for the Steelers is that there were no new additions to their injured list noted on Day 1:

• Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (unknown)

• Cornerback Jalen Ramsey (Knee)

• Cornerback Donte Kent (Knee)

The "Steelers Six"

Prior to the beginning of today's session, head coach Mike McCarthy laid out his set of fundamentals that he entitled the "Steelers Six":

1. Ball security

2. Blocking

3. Big Plays

4. Finish/pursuit

5. Mannerisms (disguises)

6. Tackling and breaking tackles

Rudolph With The Hot Hand

Day 1 brought its share of offensive struggles, but the unit looked noticeably more efficient during the next set of team sessions. Veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph stood out while working with the second-team offense in 11‑on‑11 periods, consistently distributing the ball to multiple pass catchers and operating with clear efficiency throughout the day.

Interestingly enough, quarterback Will Howard would eventually receive second-team reps over him during the two-minute drill.

Kickers Flaunting Their Stuff

Another Day 2 standout was kicker Chris Boswell, who went a perfect 7‑for‑7 on his attempts, including a 54‑yarder. Cam Johnston was equally steady, matching his strong Day 1 performance with multiple 60‑yard punts during his session.

Wilson Getting More Targets

An encouraging sign from the first two days is the volume of targets receiver Roman Wilson has been getting, particularly from quarterback Aaron Rodgers. According to Nick Farabaugh’s camp report, Wilson has been the most targeted player through the opening two sessions.

Samuel Jr. Continues To Impress

Following two pass breakups on Day 1, cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. extended his hot streak with another during team drills, breaking up Mason Rudolph’s pass intended for tight end Pat Freiermuth. Things are looking up for him so far.

Rookie Everette's "Welcome To The NFL" Moment

It almost seemed like shades of what former Steelers receiver George Pickens did to then‑rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. at training camp in 2023.

During one of the late 11‑on‑11 sessions, quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw a pass to DK Metcalf while he was completely blanketed by rookie cornerback Daylen Everette. Whether it was pass interference on the rookie was debatable, but Metcalf was able to make a highlight‑worthy catch over him — likely a humbling moment for the young corner.
