2026 Steelers Training Camp - Day 5 Recap

After a well‑deserved day off, the Steelers returned to the field for their first official day in pads on a sunny, wet afternoon at St. Vincent College. With the Pat McAfee Show on site and legions of Steelers fans in attendance, it was predictably an eventful session.

Today's training camp storylines include - Washington the fullback, a veteran linebacker showing out in one-on-ones, and a rookie QB showing off his arm.

So, Steelers fans, let's go!

Injury Report

As expected, cornerback Donte Kent was not in pads as he continues to work his way back from his ACL injury. The newest development involved defensive lineman Logan Lee, who was also seen not wearing pads for today’s session. The nature of his potential injury is unknown at this point. This observation was captured by SteelerNation editor Brandon Wallace.

With safety DeShon Elliott (PUP list) not participating in team drills, rookie safety Robert Spears-Jennings once against took first-team reps on defense.

Both cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and Joey Porter Jr. were spotted running on the far field, which could be an indication they are close to returning.

Later during one of the team sessions, receiver Cole Burgess limped off and was later carted off.

With the signing of veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins, the Steelers released veteran safety Darnell Savage, who had been limited due to injury the last few days in training camp.

Darnell The Fullback?

As scary as tight end Darnell Washington already is at his position, him lining up as a fullback is an even more frightening thought for opposing defenses. During the first team session, he worked in the backfield as a fullback. Signs of things to come?

Watt Shows out In One-on-Ones

With the team back in pads, it gave the opportunity to show what they can do in one-on-ones. While there were many solid showing, the one who stood out the most was veteran linebacker T.J Watt, who got the best of both Max Iheanchor and Troy Fautanu, but was stopped by Spencer Anderson.

Allar Showing Off His Arm..again

One player that has generated tremendous buzz so far, is rookie quarterback Drew Allar - primarily because of his arm talent. As he did on Day 4, Allar showed off that arm talent during 7v7s in the tune of a 50+ yards touchdown to receiver Cole Burgess. To say the least, he is on the right path to going up the quarterback depth chart.

Slaughter Is Everywhere

A name that had not been mentioned until this day was defensive back Doneiko Slaughter. Whether he was breaking up passes, intercepting Will Howard, supporting the run, or coming off the edge to force a bad pass, he did practically everything a defensive back could do on the field.

Rookie Everette Making Plays On Defense.

Another rookie who has been trending upward is cornerback Daylen Everette, who registered two pass breakups — one on quarterback Mason Rudolph during the early session, and one on Will Howard during the two‑minute drill late in practice.
