2024 NFL Draft Prospect Review - C Matt Lee

Player Description

Name: Matt Lee

School: Miami

Position: Center

Class: Senior

Height: 6'4

Weight: 295 lbs

Draft Projection: Mid 2nd round - Early 4th round

Strengths:

  • Physical at the point of attack

  • Reasonable mobility in open space

  • Refined pass protector

  • Good functional strength

  • Decent Motor

  • Ideal frame for the position

  • Utilizes fundamentals effectively: hand placement, feet, and good angles

  • Decent range and lateral mobility

  • Excellent overall awareness

  • Can win one-on-one with either finesse or physicality

  • Quick at diagnosing stunts and picking them up

  • Versatile enough to play at guard or tackle

Weaknesses:

Pad level is a big concern. When coming out of his stance, Lee has a habit of standing too upright. In these instances, he gives up leverage and is susceptible to getting pushed backwards. Lee also has the tendency to fall off blocks, which is linked to his pad level issues and minimal use of his feet.

As an athlete, Lee is somewhat limited and is not overly explosive, despite being reasonably mobile. On counters, Lee struggles locating and sealing defenders; for this reason, he is better suited for inside zone runs. Though Lee plays center, his skillset may be more effective as a guard.
