Steelers Tabbed As Potential Trade Team For Cooks or Meyers

With wide receiver Calvin Austin III sidelined for an extended period due to injury, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of a complementary option alongside D.K. Metcalf. Although Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, and newly signed Isaiah Hodgins are available, one CBS Sports analyst has suggested the team consider acquiring a veteran receiver from the NFC.

In his latest column, NFL analyst Cody Benjamin identified the Steelers as a potential trade destination for New Orleans Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

While Cooks may no longer be the dynamic playmaker he once was, Benjamin emphasized that his experience could prove valuable for teams like the Steelers aiming to maintain a high level of performance through the latter part of the season.

"Cooks has a history of bouncing around as a plug-and-play fill-in, and other clubs might like his experience for a late-year push. The Saints, meanwhile, are in full rebuild mode as Spencer Rattler holds down the fort at quarterback"

In addition to Cooks, Benjamin also linked the team to Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who reportedly requested a trade prior to the start of the season. Despite the Raiders’ struggles, Meyers has remained a productive contributor, recording 290 receiving yards on 25 receptions.

Meyers has proven to be a versatile playmaker, capable of lining up both inside and outside. He could be a valuable asset in helping quarterback Aaron Rodgers stretch the field and diversify the passing attack.

At present, the Steelers have shown little indication that they intend to make any moves before the trade deadline. While one could argue that Meyers is the more appealing option of the two, general manager Omar Khan’s reluctance to part with 2026 draft capital suggests the team is more likely to stand pat.
