A lot can change in less than 24 hours.
Following an embarrassing loss to the Buffalo Bills—arguably their worst offensive performance of the season—the Pittsburgh Steelers remain noticeably short on offensive playmakers, particularly at the wide receiver position.
Finding a receiver who can not only complement a regressing DK Metcalf but also help lift the Steelers out of their current offensive slump has proven to be a formidable challenge.
One name that became available today is former Vikings receiver Adam Thielen, who was released after expressing his desire to join a potential playoff contender in what he has indicated will be his final NFL season. Despite the Steelers’ current struggles, sports writer Cody Benjamin still views them as a viable destination, as noted in his latest piece for CBS Sports.
In his article, Benjamin suggested that Thielen’s addition would likely receive the endorsement of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who just yesterday voiced concerns about commitment issues within the current group of receivers.
"A day after Aaron Rodgers publicly implied some Steelers receivers aren't fully committed to learning and/or executing their routes, perhaps the overachieving Thielen will draw an endorsement from A-Rod in Steel City."
At one point, Thielen was linked to Rodgers after the latter became the starting quarterback for the New York Jets. Although that move never materialized, Benjamin argues that there may be no better time than now to make it happen.
Thielen entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota State. Over his 13-year career, he has recorded 693 receptions for 8,380 receiving yards and 64 touchdowns. His most notable season came in 2017, when he earned Second-Team All-Pro honors after posting 91 receptions for 1,276 yards and four touchdowns.
