With the NFL trade deadline fast approaching, the Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly exploring options to bolster their receiving corps alongside star wideout D.K. Metcalf. Among the names circulating are Los Angeles Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers and Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro A.J. Brown, who could command significant trade capital.
However, CBS Sports analyst Garrett Podell has floated a more unconventional possibility: a deal with a division rival. In his latest column, Podell suggests the Steelers pursue Baltimore Ravens receiver DeAndre Hopkins, citing the Ravens’ underwhelming performance this season as a potential catalyst for parting ways with the veteran pass-catcher.
Podell argues that Hopkins’ acquisition cost would likely be lower than that of Meyers or Brown, making him a more attainable target. Despite a dip in production this year, Hopkins remains a respected presence and could provide Pittsburgh with a valuable boost in the second half of the season.
"The acquisition cost for Hopkins shouldn't be high given his age, and the Ravens won't need his services much longer with one of football's worst defenses making it nearly impossible for whoever lines up at quarterback for them to win games. It seems like a win-win deal for two bitter AFC North rivals with the Ravens even getting a single pick back for a 33-year-old receiver on a one-year deal."
Despite being targeted just 13 times this season, Ravens receiver DeAndre Hopkins has made the most of his opportunities, recording 178 receiving yards on nine catches. His 92.1 offensive grade from Pro Football Focus currently ranks second among all NFL wideouts, trailing only Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowler Puka Nacua.
The Steelers, meanwhile, are facing a depth issue at receiver following Calvin Austin III’s shoulder injury. While Pittsburgh has leaned more heavily on its tight ends in recent weeks, adding a veteran like Hopkins could introduce a much-needed vertical threat to complement D.K. Metcalf on the outside.
