It is no secret that Pittsburgh Steelers scouts have been actively evaluating college football talent in search of a potential franchise quarterback.

To date, the 2026 quarterback class has largely underwhelmed—save for two notable prospects. One of them, Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, has already been linked to the Steelers as a potential first-round selection by a CBS Sports analyst.

In Mike Renner’s latest 2026 Mock Draft, he projects the Steelers to select Moore with the 12th overall pick. This projected draft position could imply one of two scenarios based on the team’s current trajectory: either the Steelers may regress enough this season to earn a top-12 pick, or they could be planning to trade up in the draft.

Moore has emerged as one of the standout quarterbacks in college football this season. His physical attributes and overall skill set make him a compelling candidate to be selected early in the draft.

"In four games this season, his arm talent and athleticism are on full display. He's averaging over 10.0 yards per attempt so far. If he continues to impress this weekend against Penn State, Moore could even soar higher than this."

Assuming current starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers retires following the 2025 season, Moore would likely compete for the QB1 role against veteran Mason Rudolph—who signed a two-year deal this offseason—and rookie Will Howard, selected in the sixth round of this year’s draft.

It’s also worth noting that Moore retains another year of eligibility should he choose to return to Oregon. Through five games this season, he has recorded 100 completions for 1,210 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, and a 74.6% completion rate.
