So far, the general consensus among NFL Draft analysts has the Pittsburgh Steelers targeting either a wide receiver or a quarterback in the first round of the upcoming NFL Draft.

While this year’s quarterback class has drawn mixed reviews, the 2025 wide receiver group is widely regarded as one of the deepest in recent memory, with several prospects carrying legitimate first‑round grades. One receiver frequently linked to Pittsburgh is Arizona State standout Jordyn Tyson.

In his latest analysis, CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards projected Tyson as the ideal first‑round target for new head coach Mike McCarthy. From a crowded and talented receiver pool, Edwards argued that Tyson offers the best complement opposite DK Metcalf, citing his vertical speed and ability to stretch defenses.

Although Edwards emphasized the importance of addressing the quarterback position early, the Steelers may remain hesitant to invest another first‑round pick at the position after the disappointing outcome of selecting Kenny Pickett in 2022. Still, if Aaron Rodgers does not return, it’s reasonable to believe Pittsburgh could consider a quarterback such as Ty Simpson in Round 1. Alternatively, they could look to the second through fourth rounds while focusing on developing Will Howard—a player McCarthy has publicly expressed excitement about coaching.

Even so, Tyson should not be overlooked as a legitimate option. Across his collegiate career at Colorado and Arizona State, he averaged 14.4 yards per reception. His breakout season came in 2024, when he posted 1,101 receiving yards on 75 catches with 10 touchdowns. The primary concern surrounding Tyson is his injury history, which includes a significant knee injury in 2022, a collarbone injury in 2024, and recurring hamstring issues this past season.

Final Verdict: Tyson is a dynamic playmaker with several high‑end traits. However, given the offensive structure Mike McCarthy is expected to implement, his fit may be less than ideal. For a deeper evaluation, check out our full scouting report on Tyson.
