CBS Sports’ recent run of mock drafts has made one thing abundantly clear: when it comes to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ first‑round plans, all roads lead back to the offensive line. Pittsburgh has poured resources into the trenches since the 2023 draft, selecting five linemen over that span, including back‑to‑back first‑rounders in Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu.
And in his latest mock, CBS Sports analyst Tom Fornelli keeps the trend rolling. He has the Steelers grabbing Penn State mauler Olaivavega Ioane with the 21st overall pick.

With each division rival steadily beefing up its defensive front, Ioane profiles as the kind of plug‑and‑play lineman who can help stabilize the unit, replace the veteran presence lost with Isaac Seumalo’s departure, and give Pittsburgh the physical edge it needs.
"Ioane can stop looking at Zillow listings in Baltimore, but he says within the division, as the Steelers solidify the interior of their offensive line."
Fornelli is now the fourth CBS Sports analyst to project an offensive lineman to Pittsburgh in the first round. Veteran writer Jordan Dajani previously paired the Steelers with Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor, while Josh Edwards linked them to Arizona State’s Max Iheanachor. Earlier in the cycle, Mike Renner also kept the trend alive, mocking Utah’s Caleb Lomu to Pittsburgh back in January.
As it stands, Ioane is the only offensive lineman among that group of CBS projections who has actually taken a pre‑draft visit with the Steelers, make him the most plausible candidate Ioane enters the process as one of the most decorated linemen in this year’s class, earning multiple All‑America and All‑Big Ten honors after anchoring Penn State’s front last season.
