To put it bluntly, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ preseason showing against the New York Jets was one they’ll want to bury quickly—especially second‑year quarterback Will Howard.
Howard finished with 74 passing yards and two interceptions, doing little to strengthen his case for the backup job. His struggles drew national attention, landing him on Garrett Podell’s “losers” list for CBS Sports’ Week 2 preseason recap.
Adding to the disappointment, the Jets entered the matchup without an interception since the 2024 season. Howard helped snap that drought in emphatic fashion.
"Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Will Howard, the starter for the home team on Friday, acted as New York's slump buster, tossing not one but two picks the Jets' away on throws intended for wide receiver Roman Wilson over the middle of the field."
The Steelers close out their preseason Thursday against the Buffalo Bills, and for Will Howard, the stakes couldn’t be clearer. A strong showing is essential—not just to secure a roster spot, but to climb the team’s quarterback hierarchy.
