ESPN NFL analyst Jeremy Fowler conducted a comprehensive poll involving executives, players, and scouts to determine the top defensive tackles in the NFL.
In the end, they came up with a list of ten defensive tackles who they considered the very best, with some notable mentions. Veteran defensive tackle Cam Heyward was featured on this list at No. 9.
Heyward registered his second straight double-digit sack season (10.5 sacks) with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022, in addition to 74 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 23
quarterback hits.
An argument can be made for Heyward being much higher on this list. Since 2019, Heyward has never received an overall grade lower than 89, including last season when he finished with a grade of 89.9. Heyward also made his sixth straight Pro Bowl appearance.
Despite this ranking, Heyward has been widely considered by many as the second-best interior defensive lineman, behind Los Angeles Rams' Aaron Donald, who was featured at
No. 1 defensive tackle on their list.
