Arkansas' Success Lies With Xavian Sorey Jr.

Last season did not go as planned for head coach Sam Pittman, as the team finished with a disappointing 7-6 record. As the new season approaches, Pittman finds himself firmly on the hot seat, with the once-strong support from the Razorback faithful continuing to wane.

The key to a successful season for the Razorbacks will undoubtedly be their defense. Despite losing All-American Landon Jackson to the NFL, the defensive line remains formidable with senior Cameron Ball and junior Quincy Rhodes. Additionally, their group of linebackers is one of the most underrated units in the SEC. At the heart of this group is senior Xavian Sorey Jr.

Before transferring to the Razorbacks in 2024, Sorey Jr. spent his first three years with Kirby Smart's Georgia Bulldogs. During those three years, he was part of two National Championship teams but was overshadowed by the abundance of defensive talent on the roster, which limited his opportunities.

When deciding to transfer after the 2023 season, Sorey Jr. sought not only to showcase his abilities but also to bring his championship pedigree to the Razorback defense. Alongside Jackson, Sorey Jr. proved to be their most efficient and productive defensive player right from Week 1 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, where he registered a sack and two tackles in a dominant 70-0 victory.

By the end of the season, Xavian Sorey Jr. led the team with 99 tackles, tied for tackles for loss with 10, and recorded two sacks and an interception. This season, there is no doubt that he is not only their most important defensive player but also the driving force that can elevate the team to the next level. Despite their promising talent on offense, Sorey Jr.'s presence will be the key to a greater season.
