With all the talk leading up to the matchup, the Pittsburgh Steelers entered Week 8 with a point to prove. In front of a capacity crowd at Acrisure Stadium, they delivered a convincing 27-6 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

The win moves the Steelers into sole possession of first place in the AFC North heading into their bye week.

Game Recap:

The Steelers' defense set the tone early, forcing two first-quarter turnovers. After linebacker Patrick Queen jarred the ball loose on a sack-fumble, Pittsburgh's offence capitalized with a quick five-play, 45-yard scoring drive. Running back Rico Dowdle did much of the heavy lifting with several explosive runs before capping the possession with a nine-yard touchdown run. Following the extra point, the Steelers jumped out to a 7-0 lead.

The Steelers continued to impose their will on the ground during their next possession, with running back Jaylen Warren breaking loose for a 51-yard gain to spark the drive. Pittsburgh marched 86 yards on nine plays before settling for a Chris Boswell field goal, extending its lead to 10-0.

Cleveland answered on its next possession, piecing together a 10-play, 61-yard drive that resulted in a field goal. The score trimmed Pittsburgh's lead to 10-3 and halted the Steelers' early momentum. They would re-establish the 10-point lead following another Boswell field goal to make it 13-3.

Late in the half, Browns kicker Andre Szmyt's field goal cut the Steelers' lead to seven. Pittsburgh quickly answered with a six-play, 69-yard drive, capped by a Pat Freiermuth touchdown to take a 14-point lead into halftime.

At the midway point of the third quarter, the Steelers found the end zone again. A 58-yard gain by tight end Darnell Washington set up the score, and Jaylen Warren punched it in from one yard out to extend Pittsburgh's lead to 27-6.

Following an interception by Rodgers on a pass intended for DK Metcalf, the Browns appeared poised to swing momentum in their favour with an extended drive that carried into the fourth quarter. Cleveland moved the ball effectively, but the Steelers' defense came up with another key stop, forcing a turnover on downs to keep the Browns off the scoreboard.

With a few seconds remaining in the contest, the Browns would make another push which would ultimately result in no points.

Defense And Ground Offense Own The Day:

This game was defined by Pittsburgh's rushing attack, led by Jaylen Warren and Rico Dowdle, who combined for 199 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Steelers' ground game was particularly effective in the first half, posting a 61% rushing success rate at one point.

Defensively, the Steelers were equally dominant. Pittsburgh overwhelmed Cleveland's offence, finishing with eight sacks, seven tackles for loss, five pass breakups, and 13 quarterback hits.
