One of the NFL's top free agent receivers could be looking for a new home. Could Pittsburgh be a possible destination?
This offseason, Indianapolis Colts receiver Michael Pittman Jr. should have his fair share of options. According to Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports, one of those options could be the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Though the team has is relatively steady with both Diontae Johnson and George Pickens in their receiving corps, DeArdo believes that Johnson's status with the team after this season is uncertain, as he will become a free agent. DeArdo noted that having Pittman Jr. on their receiving corps would not only be beneficial to their depth; he could also serve as leverage when negotiating Johnson's next contract.
"Yes, the Steelers already have Diontae Johnson and George Pickens. But Johnson will be a free agent next year, and the Steelers don't have much depth behind their top-two wideouts. Pittman would solidify the Steelers' receiving corps this year and would give them leverage regarding Johnson and his expiring contract."
The team will most likely use this year's NFL Draft and possibly free agency to bolster their receiving corps. Pittman Jr., though, might be a complementary outside weapon to Pickens. Pittman recorded career highs in receiving yards (1,152) and receptions (109) during the previous campaign. Pittman has recorded 14 receptions for 177 yards and a score in his career against the Steelers.
