Is Spencer Anderson The Steelers Starting Guard In 2026?

ree

Since being selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, offensive lineman Spencer Anderson has made the most of every opportunity that has come his way.

In the team’s Week 4 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland, Anderson played an integral role in Pittsburgh’s most effective rushing performance of the season. He was deployed in various jumbo formations as an extra tight end, helping the offense control the line of scrimmage and sustain drives.

Although he played just 19 offensive snaps against the Vikings, Anderson left a strong impression. While the box score may not reflect his impact, it was the kind of performance that earns trust—not only from coaches, but from teammates as well.

Isaac Seumalo remains a steady veteran presence, but he’s set to become a free agent in 2026 and carries a cap hit of just over $6 million this season. Anderson, by contrast, offers youth, upside, and a more natural fit for Pittsburgh’s evolving zone-blocking schemes. If he continues to build on outings like Week 4, it’s easy to envision him penciled in as the starting left guard next season.

Given the success of the jumbo package, Anderson is expected to play a larger role in the offense as the season progresses. In many ways, his ascension to a starting role feels inevitable—driven by his versatility, development, and the team’s long-term vision. The torch may not be passed yet, but it’s getting warm in Anderson’s hands.
