With Mike McCarthy officially signed as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ new head coach, it’s reasonable to expect the offense to look drastically different under his West Coast system. That shift only increases the urgency for the Steelers to upgrade their receiving corps this offseason.

Along with a draft class widely projected to be deep at the receiver position, free agency may also offer intriguing options — one of them being Indianapolis Colts wideout Alec Pierce.

Pierce is coming off a breakout season in Indianapolis, setting career highs with 47 receptions, 1,003 receiving yards, and six touchdowns. He also delivered a strong performance against the Steelers in Week 9, finishing with 115 yards on just six catches. Several analysts, including Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports, have identified Pittsburgh as a strong potential landing spot for Pierce. In his latest piece, Pereles lists the Steelers as one of four suitors, alongside the Raiders, Bills, and Colts.

" Pierce is young (25) and fast: He's led the NFL in yards per catch in consecutive seasons, and he became the first player since A.J. Brown in 2019 to go over 1,000 yards on at least 20 yards per catch."

As it stands, the only two notable receivers on the Steelers’ roster are D.K. Metcalf and Calvin Austin III. Under McCarthy, Roman Wilson is likely to see increased opportunities, but it’s clear the team needs a stronger overall group to effectively operate within a true West Coast system.

Pereles also linked another receiver to the Steelers in free agency: veteran Deebo Samuel, who was previously connected to Pittsburgh in trade rumors during the 2025 offseason.
