Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers delivered a vintage performance in the team's Week 1 victory over the New York Jets. While many viewed his play as nearly flawless, a CBS Sports analyst offered a differing perspective.
In his Week 1 quarterback grading report, NFL analyst Jared Dubin awarded Aaron Rodgers a B+ grade, despite Rodgers finishing the game with 244 passing yards, four touchdown passes, and a quarterback rating of 136.7.
While the performance appeared impressive on the surface, Dubin cited Rodgers’ average depth of throw—just 4.9 yards, one of the lowest among quarterbacks in Week 1—as a key factor in the evaluation. He also noted that Rodgers took multiple sacks despite facing minimal pressures, which likely contributed to him missing out on an A grade.
"He also took a sack on 11.8% of his dropbacks (nearly twice the league average) despite being pressured at only a 26.5% rate, via TruMedia. So all of that tends to balance out the strong surface numbers."
One notable aspect of the game was the performance of the Steelers' offensive line, which struggled at times to contain defensive linemen Quinnen Williams and Will McDonald IV. Despite the pressure, Rodgers effectively distributed the ball to seven different receivers and excelled in play-action situations, completing 6 of 8 passes for three touchdowns.
Rodgers will have an opportunity to build on his strong start as the Steelers prepare to host the Seattle Seahawks this coming Sunday.
