After a turbulent week marked by media scrutiny and calls for head coach Mike Tomlin’s resignation, the Pittsburgh Steelers answered with resilience. Behind a hard-fought 27-22 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, the Steelers improved their record to 7-6 and snapped their losing streak, reaffirming their fight to stay in the playoff hunt.
GAME RECAP -
On the Ravens’ first offensive possession, they struck first, capping off a 55-yard drive that spanned nine plays with a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Steelers wasted no time answering back. On the ensuing drive, wide receiver DK Metcalf hauled in a 52-yard gain, setting the stage for an 8-play, 65-yard march engineered by quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers finished the drive with a touchdown strike, giving Pittsburgh a 7-3 advantage.
In the second quarter, the Steelers extended their lead. Kicker Chris Boswell drilled a field goal after a methodical 75-yard drive, pushing the margin to 10-3.
Momentum continued to swing Pittsburgh’s way. On the Ravens’ next possession, quarterback Lamar Jackson was intercepted by cornerback James Pierre. The Steelers capitalized on the turnover, converting it into another touchdown to make it 17-3.
Late in the first half, the Ravens answered back with an impressive 13-play, 60-yard drive capped by a touchdown run from Lamar Jackson. However, a missed extra point kept the deficit at 17-9 heading into halftime.
Opening the third quarter, Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers offense marched 50 yards in eight plays. Chris Boswell finished the drive with a field goal, stretching Pittsburgh’s lead to 20-9.
The Ravens refused to back down. On the ensuing possession, rookie running back Keaton Mitchell broke free for a 56-yard run, igniting the drive. Baltimore quickly converted the big play into a touchdown, trimming the Steelers’ lead to 20-16.
On the next drive, the Steelers would hit it big with a touchdown drive, which would last just six plays and end with a 38-yard touchdown to running back Jaylen Warren to make it 27-16. The Ravens would come back with a drive of their own to cut the lead to eight after successful field goal.
The Ravens continued to battle back, engineering a 9-play, 50-yard drive that culminated in a touchdown. The score trimmed the Steelers’ advantage to 27-22, keeping Baltimore firmly within striking distance.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Ravens would put together another promising drive, which would eventually be stymied on fourth down by the Steelers defense, with only a few minutes left in the contest.
On the final play of the game, linebacker Alex Highsmith delivered the decisive moment. Bursting off the edge, he recorded the game-winning sack that sealed the victory and lifted the Steelers over the Ravens.
Standouts and Injuries -
For the Steelers, much of the game was defined by injuries, as key contributors — tight end Darnell Washington, cornerback Brandin Echols, and offensive lineman Andrus Peat — each exited with concussion-related setbacks.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers delivered arguably his best performance in a Steelers uniform, completing 28 passes for 284 yards while accounting for both a rushing and passing touchdown. Wide receiver DK Metcalf paced all pass catchers with 148 yards on seven receptions, while running back Jaylen Warren chipped in 62 total yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, linebacker Alex Highsmith anchored the unit with seven solo tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and the game-winning sack. Cornerback Brandin Echols also made his presence felt, recording a sack, a tackle for loss, and a key pass deflection.
