Jason McIntyre, an FS1 sports analyst, has had some questionable views over the years. The type that has provoked frustration and misunderstanding among fans and pundits alike.
On FS1's signature show "The Herd" this morning, McIntyre discussed the Steelers quarterback situation and proposed the idea of trading All-Pro linebacker T.J. Watt for first-round draft capital.
"If you want to turn things around in Pittsburgh, and there is no end in sight the way this team is built, you gotta put TJ Watt on the trading block. It’s not a defensive league. Every playoff game they’ve been to and gotten smashed in the last six years they’re giving up 30-40 points. What’s the point of being built around defense? TJ Watt is going to get you two ones [first-round picks]. I know TJ Watt is beloved and a historically great player but you trade him for two ones."
It should be noted that the club is 69-33-2 when Watt plays the entire game. One may also argue that the upcoming quarterback class is not nearly good enough to trade an all-time great, even if the return included multiple first-round picks.
If the Steelers were in the market for a quarterback next season, it would unlikely come at the expense of trading Watt.
Worth acknowledging is that both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields have not inspired much confidence with their performances in their first two preseason games. In Wilson's case, his performance drew an avalanche of criticism; many have suggested their preseason finale against the Detroit Lions could determine the fate of his position as the team's starting quarterback.
