2025 Steelers Camp Recap - Day 2 Notes

ree

Following an eventful first day, the Steelers once again took the field this afternoon for their second training camp session. Although it was cut short due to inclement weather, there was still plenty of action to help set the tone for the days ahead.

Today’s training camp storylines include the return of “Seven Shots,” a new addition to the roster, and a potential issue at defensive tackle.

So, Steelers fans, let's go!

Injury Report

Veteran guard Isaac Seumalo aside, tight end Jonnu Smith was spotted wearing a helmet but saw minimal participation, according to Penn Live’s Nick Farabaugh. Meanwhile, running back Cordarrelle Patterson was sidelined due to an undisclosed injury.

Day 2 Camp Notes -

Seven Shots Is Back

A staple of Steelers training camps in years past, the popular red zone drill known as “Seven Shots” returned for its first installment of the season. It was a tightly contested battle, with the offense and defense trading plays throughout. Ultimately, a touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to tight end Pat Freiermuth sealed a 4–3 victory for the offense.

Chuck Clark Signed To The Roster

Prior to today’s session, the Steelers announced the signing of veteran safety Chuck Clark. To make room on the roster, the team released defensive tackle Domenique Davis. Despite being new to the squad, Clark made his appearance this afternoon.

Derrick Harmon - The Gamewrecker?

If training camp so far is any indication, rookie defensive tackle Derrick Harmon might be the Steelers' next breakout player. From wreaking havoc in the backfield to overpowering blockers with brute strength and precision during his time with Oregon, Harmon quickly earned a reputation as a disruptive force.

On Day 1, he showed flashes of dominance, and by Day 2, he was a problem the offensive line simply couldn’t ignore. Whether it’s penetrating gaps or blowing up plays before they develop, Harmon is setting the tone early. And with padded practices on the horizon, the “Gamewrecker” nickname might soon become official team lingo.

Cory Trice Jr. Has A Solid Day

One player looking to break out this season is third-year cornerback Cory Trice Jr. Although he flew under the radar on Day 1, Trice Jr. made his presence felt on Day 2, registering two pass breakups—one during “Seven Shots,” and another while locking down veteran receiver Robert Woods in team sessions.

Big Play Austin III

Before the end of practice, the highlight of the day came courtesy of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who connected with receiver Calvin Austin III on a deep strike. Austin burned cornerback Joey Porter Jr. with a slick double move, turning heads with one of the most electrifying plays of camp so far.

Howard Takes QB3 Reps

It didn't take long for rookie quarterback Will Howard to unseat Skylar Thompson as QB3, but his performance on Day 1 and today merited the promotion. Unseating Mason Rudolph, on the other hand, should be a difficult task with the way he is performing.
