Veteran wide receiver Robert Woods is set to begin his 13th NFL season. Despite the implications of his recent tenure with the Houston Texans, he may still have plenty left to contribute.
Overall, the Pittsburgh Steelers boast a compelling receiving corps led by All-Pro D.K. Metcalf, the promising Calvin Austin III, and Roman Wilson, who is returning from an injury-plagued rookie campaign. However, according to fantasy football expert Jamey Eisenberg of CBS Sports, Woods could emerge as a starting receiver alongside Metcalf and has the potential to become one of Aaron Rodgers' preferred targets.
"I'm hopeful the Steelers will give a big opportunity to Roman Wilson or Calvin Austin III, but Woods might be the starter opposite DK Metcalf, which is why he's listed here. Woods, 33, spent 2024 in Houston and finished with 20 catches for 203 yards and no touchdowns on 30 targets in 15 games."
During his two seasons with the Houston Texans, Robert Woods played alongside talented receivers such as Tank Dell and Nico Collins. This may have contributed to a reduction in his target share and a decline in overall production. Over that period, Woods recorded 60 receptions for 629 receiving yards and one touchdown.
If the Steelers choose not to acquire another wide receiver in free agency, Woods is expected to play a pivotal role in elevating Arthur Smith's offensive scheme.
