The last two drafts have seen the Pittsburgh Steelers select offensive linemen with their first-round picks. Could 2025 make it three years in a row?
Renowned football analyst and color commentator Joel Klatt released his latest mock draft following free agency a few days ago. In his projection, Klatt connected the Steelers to Missouri's All-SEC offensive lineman, Armand Membou, with the 21st overall pick. Klatt's reasoning emphasized Membou's flexibility on the offensive line, particularly following the loss of Dan Moore Jr. to free agency. He also highlighted Membou's ability to excel in multiple positions.
"They went out and traded for D.K. Metcalf, and I like Armand Membou from Missouri. He had a really good Combine. You can bolster the offensive line; the Steelers would be banking on the upside here. I like that you could offer some flexibility on the line—either tackle or guard. They lost their tackle, Dan Moore Jr., to the Titans in free agency, so they need to replace him a bit."
So far this offseason, the Steelers have paid little attention to offensive line prospects, with the exception of Charles Grant from William & Mary, whom offensive line coach Pat Meyer observed during his pro day this past week. For the most part, the team has focused on strengthening the defensive trenches while potentially exploring the addition of another quarterback to their roster.
As it stands, the team's starting offensive line will likely include last year's fourth-round pick, Mason McCormick, at right guard, with Jones returning to left tackle and Troy Fautanu at right tackle.
Meanwhile, Membou's performance at this year's Combine has placed him in the conversation as a potential first-round pick in the upcoming draft. Last season, Membou was a key member of a Tigers offensive line that ranked seventh nationally in time of possession (32:54) and ranked fourth and seventh in the conference for tackles for loss allowed (4.62) and sacks allowed (2.00) per game. Membou himself started 12 of 13 games at left tackle, allowing zero sacks and zero quarterback hits across 411 pass-blocking snaps.
