When it comes to special teams play, few are better than Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Ben Skowronek.
Since joining the team this year, Skowronek has emerged as one of the elite gunners in the league. In their Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders, Skowronek recorded a key fumble recovery from a muffed punt by Olamide Zaccheaus, which the Steelers subsequently turned into a touchdown on the ensuing drive.
Throughout much of his NFL career, Skowronek has made a name for himself with his special teams abilities. Last season with the Los Angeles Rams, he was tied for the league lead in special teams solo tackles with 11. When Pro Football Focus introduced their "Gunner Win Rate" metric last month, Skowronek was ranked No. 1 with a 33.3% win rate. Even when he is not making tackles, Skowronek finds ways to put his special teams unit in positions to make plays.
Though he has taken few snaps on offense this season, Skowronek's value as a gunner has made him an essential piece of the Steelers' success on special teams. As the season progresses, they'll need him to continue making the type of plays that give them an edge over the opposition.
