The Pittsburgh Steelers reduced their roster to the mandatory 53-man roster, as was expected for all NFL teams on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Steelers got ahead of the curb by releasing UDFA receiver Rico Bussey Jr., veteran punter Jordan Berry, UDFA linebacker Jamar Watson, and veteran long snapper Kameron Canaday.
At 4:00 pm EST, they released 14 more players, while placing quarterback Joshua Dobbs on Reserve/Injured List. One of the notable names released was sixth-round pick linebacker Quincy Roche. In four preseason games, Roche registered five total tackles, 1.5 sacks, 9 sack yards, and three quarterback hits. After impressive showings during one-on-one drills during training camp, his release may be a matter of numbers, and the play of free agent linebacker Jamir Jones, who made the 53-man roster.
The remaining players released according to steelers.com: receiver Cody White; running backs Trey Edmunds and Jaylen Samuels; offensive linemen Rashaad Coward, B.J. Finney, Chaz Green and John Leglue; tight end Kevin Rader; linebackers Cassius Marsh, Quincy Roche and Jamar Watson; defensive backs Mark Gilbert, Arthur Maulet and Donovan Stiner.
The team will have the chance to sign 16 players to their practice squad starting Wednesday, September 1st.
