Khan Listed As An Executive To Be Most Impacted By The 2025 Rookie Class

Unlike previous years, this off-season has not been an overly prosperous one for Steelers general manager Omar Khan.

Despite acquiring All-Pro receiver DK Metcalf, the team has yet to find a viable solution to their quarterback issue while negotiating a new contract for All-Pro linebacker T.J. Watt. Given the numerous setbacks this off-season, the upcoming draft class will arguably be the most important of his tenure as general manager.

In his latest piece for CBS Sports, NFL analyst Cody Benjamin included Khan in his list of coaches and executives who will be most impacted by this year's rookie class. Benjamin attributes this primarily to the uncertainty at the quarterback position. A year after having a promising quarterback roster, the team is currently in limbo as they await a decision from Aaron Rodgers.

"Khan went against the grain, at least relative to recent Steelers history, when he completely revamped Pittsburgh's quarterback room last offseason, swapping out Kenny Pickett for Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. A year later, the Steelers are right back to square one. Aaron Rodgers might still show up, but if he doesn't, what then? Will they force a pick at No. 21 overall? Even if Rodgers signs, he's 41! They need real answers at some point."

The Steelers currently hold the 21st pick heading into next week's NFL Draft. There has been considerable speculation about the team trading up to select Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who established a good rapport with head coach Mike Tomlin during his pre-draft visit last week. Another potential first-round pick is Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, who also visited the Steelers' facilities. Additionally, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, one of three pre-draft prospects who has met with the team on three separate occasions, is confirmed to attend this year's NFL Draft. This has led many to consider the possibility of the team selecting him in the first round.

Currently, the Steelers have two quarterbacks on their roster: Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. Rodgers' decision will likely influence the team's strategy regarding whether to draft a quarterback early or defer to the later rounds.
