Is Cole Holcomb On The Verge Of A Comeback This Season?

It has been a long, arduous road for Steelers linebacker Cole Holcomb.

In Week 9 last season against the Tennessee Titans, Holcomb sustained a near career-ending knee injury on a routine play in which he took the worst of a tackle attempt by then-Steelers safety Keanu Neal. Since that occurrence, Holcomb has been on the team's PUP list, working hard to make it back to action.

Though his name has not been mentioned much this offseason, the latest update may offer hope for a possible comeback.

As the Steelers continue to prepare for the upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Holcomb was also seen working at the far end of the field. According to SteelersNow.com analyst Alan Saunders, Holcomb indicated earlier in the week that he may have an update regarding his status, perhaps one that could suggest a return this season.

Considering the severity of Holcomb's injury, it seemed improbable that he would be playing football again, let alone playing this season. If he is able to return, it will be interesting to see what his role on defense would be. Even if it does not happen, the fact he has reached this point speaks volumes about his resilience and perseverance to overcome such an obstacle.
