If one thing can be said about tight end Pat Freiermuth, it's that going in his direction is generally a safe bet.
Since his rookie season in 2021, Freiermuth has recorded a catch percentage of 64 or higher. This season, he has taken that up another notch. Of the 32 targets this season, Freiermuth has accounted for just one drop. More impressive is the fact that he currently holds a catch percentage of 83.9, the highest among all pass catchers on the Steelers roster.
One of the main reasons for his success has been his route running, specifically his ability to get separation against opposing defenders. This season, Freiermuth has registered a separation percentage of 47.1 against man coverage, one of the highest among tight ends in the NFL. Under offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense, Freiermuth has been given more opportunities to take advantage of opposing defensive backs in one-on-one situations.
In the last two games, the Steelers' offense, with quarterback Russell Wilson at the helm, has averaged 31.5 points per game. One should expect Freiermuth to play a big role, as his ability as a pass catcher has made him a valuable asset to an ascending offensive unit.
