Darius Rush Could Make His Debut On Sunday

It seemed like yesterday, rookie cornerback Darius Rush was being signed off the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. A little over a week later, Rush is preparing to make his official regular season debut this coming Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With cornerbacks Levi Wallace, James Pierre, and rookie Joey Porter Jr. all questionable for Sunday, both he and Luq Barcoo took first team reps at practice early today, according to various reports. For Rush, this is a chance to realize the potential that many saw during this year's Senior Bowl.

"It took a long week of preparation to get here and getting into the playbook", as reported by steelersnow.com. "Since I’ve been here and getting an opportunity when I have the opportunity to take those reps, I have to make sure I know what I’m doing.”

At this point, his role in Sunday's game is not confirmed, but the mere fact that he is receiving first-team reps is indicative of the confidence they have in him despite being on the team for a little over a week.

Rush was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 138th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. On August 29th, he was waived by the Colts and claimed by the Chiefs off of waivers on September 16th. During the preseason, Rush registered a pass deflection and a 52-yard pick-six against the Buffalo Bills.
