For third-year offensive lineman Broderick Jones, the 2025 season isn’t just another chapter — it could be the one that defines his NFL career.
After spending his first two seasons at right tackle, the Steelers’ 2023 first-round pick will finally get the opportunity to return to his natural position at left tackle — the spot he excelled in during his time at Georgia. The hope in Pittsburgh is that the position switch translates into a breakout year for Jones, following two underwhelming campaigns on the right side.
In a recent piece for Pro Football Focus, NFL analyst Dalton Wasserman identified Jones as the Steelers’ top make-or-break candidate heading into 2025. With veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers now under center, Wasserman emphasized the importance of continuity and reliability along the offensive front. Given Jones’s past struggles at right tackle, a successful transition back to left tackle could be the key to stabilizing the unit.
"The Steelers desperately need production and continuity at offensive tackle, especially with Aaron Rodgers lined up to be their starting quarterback. Former first-round pick Broderick Jones spent the vast majority of his first two seasons at right tackle and struggled to a 58.5 PFF overall grade."
Jones struggled in pass protection last season, allowing 11 sacks and pass-blocking grade of 54.6 from Pro Football Focus. But with a leaner frame and renewed focus, he’s hoping the transition back to left tackle will unlock the potential that once made him a top prospect. The stakes couldn’t be higher: if he falters again, Pittsburgh may be forced to look elsewhere to anchor their offensive line.
