In sports, it's generally a risky proposition to guarantee wins against opposing teams, especially if you're on one with a losing record.
With the Pittsburgh Steelers set to face the Cincinnati Bengals on December 1st, linebacker Germaine Pratt made a bold proclamation about the outcome, as part of the fallout from the Steelers' upset loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
"We will win next week. Work to win".
For Pratt, this is not the first time he has made headlines prior to a Steelers game. In 2022, Pratt proclaimed that the Steelers offense was predictable under then-coordinator Matt Canada. Following that comment, the Steelers are 2-0 against the Bengals, their latest being a 34-11 blowout at home on December 23rd, 2023.
While the Bengals' offense has been a high point for them this season, their defense has been a completely different story. As it stands, they rank near the bottom in almost every defensive statistical category, which includes points allowed per game (28th), points allowed per play (27th), opposing red zone scoring percentage (31st), and touchdowns allowed per game (29th).
