Analyst Makes Bold Prediction In Latest 2027 Steelers Mock Draft

If you’ve been tracking the early 2027 mock drafts since the moment the 2026 NFL Draft wrapped up, you’ve probably noticed a familiar theme: most analysts keep pairing the Steelers with quarterbacks, especially Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker.

A handful of draft writers, though, have gone off the beaten path and floated the idea that Pittsburgh could take a completely different swing — namely, another first‑round offensive lineman.

In his latest mock for NFL Draft Countdown, Brad Menendez projected the Steelers to select Texas Longhorns offensive lineman Brandon Baker at No. 16, a name that has surfaced only occasionally in other mocks.

Baker heads into the upcoming season after a standout sophomore year in 2025, playing 870 snaps over 13 games without allowing a single sack and giving up just 23 pressures. As impressive as that is, it’s hard to ignore how much Pittsburgh has already invested in the trenches since 2023. This year alone, they added Max Iheanachor in Round 1 and Iowa’s Gennings Dunker in Round 3.

Inside, the depth is already young and plentiful — Mason McCormick, Spencer Anderson, and offseason addition Brock Hoffman give the Steelers a full room. Drafting another interior lineman would crowd the position even further, even if Anderson isn’t part of the long‑term plan.

Still, with assistant GM Andy Weidl’s track record of prioritizing offensive linemen, a player like Baker can’t be dismissed. It would be a statement pick: doubling down on the team’s identity in the trenches and betting that overwhelming strength up front can stabilize the offense regardless of who ends up under center
