If there's one thing the Steelers have consistently demonstrated in recent years, it's their ability to uncover hidden gems among undrafted free agents.

In 2022, it was Oklahoma State’s Jaylen Warren who emerged from obscurity to become the team’s starting running back for the upcoming season. This year’s UDFA class may be even more promising, featuring potential roster contributors such as safety Sebastian Castro and wide receiver Roc Taylor. However, the most intriguing prospect could be offensive lineman Aiden Williams from Minnesota-Duluth—who has the potential to become Pittsburgh’s next diamond in the rough.

At 6'5" and 314 pounds, Aiden Williams offers a rare combination of size, athleticism, and versatility, making him one of the most compelling players to watch during this year’s training camp. As a freshman at Minnesota-Duluth, Williams began his collegiate career as a tight end before adding bulk and transitioning to the offensive line. Over six seasons, he started 40 games at left tackle and earned AFCA First Team All-American honors in 2024. His standout play also secured him an invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl, giving the Steelers’ coaching staff a valuable opportunity to evaluate his potential up close.

While he’s still refining his technique, especially in pass protection, Williams has the kind of developmental upside that could earn him a spot on the practice squad or even sneak him onto the active roster. With the Steelers’ guard room in flux and his ability to play multiple positions, he’s got a real shot to surprise.

From Anchorage, Alaska to the NFL, Williams’ story is already one of grit and transformation. If he continues to flash in camp, he could become one of the most talked-about UDFAs in Pittsburgh this year.
