2023 Steelers Week 1 Fantasy Football Recap: TJ Watt Stands Above All

There were few positives in the Pittsburgh Steelers lopsided loss to the San Francisco 49ers at home in Week 1. Yet beneath the rubble emerged All-Pro linebacker T.J. Watt, who recorded three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

For his stellar performance in Week 1, Watt started off the season with a boom, registering 35.5 fantasy points, placing him first among all edge rushers, according to FantasyPros.com. The only other linebacker to come close was veteran Elandon Roberts, who finished the game with seven total tackles and two tackles for loss. For his efforts, he earned 14.8 fantasy points. Coming in third was Kwon Alexander, who recorded 12.8 fantasy points.

The rest of the defense looked unimpressive, with defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal recording 6.3 fantasy points and three defensive backs recording 5.3 fantasy points: Keanu Neal, Damontae Kazee, and All-Pro Minkah Fitzpatrick.

On offense, the story was quarterback Kenny Pickett, who finished with 232 passing yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Even with his struggles, he currently sits 20th among players at his position with 11.7 fantasy points.

The next closest to him was receiver Allen Robinson II, who finished with 64 receiving yards and recorded 6.4 fantasy points. Third on the list was tight end Pat Freiermuth, who currently sits sixth among players at his position with 6.3 fantasy points.
