As explosive has he is coming out of his stance, Leatherwood has a habit of standing too upright. Though he has made some improvements in this domain, his pad level leads to issues with his hand placement. As a result, he does not always establish the base needed to be effective in pass protections situations. He is somewhat vulnerable to rip or swim techniques, which could be a result of questionable hand placement. On counters, Leatherwood has some difficulty pulling and locating his man, in addition to moving at an angle. Though he possesses good overall technique, he lacks the physicality and aggressiveness necessary to be an effective run blocker. With his size, Leatherwood needs to a better job imposing himself physically against opposing defenders.
