Herbert is a tall, sturdy, athletic quarterback with great vision and the ability to execute passes quickly. Capable of using his height as an added advantage, he is able to see the whole field, which is part of why is able to go through his progressions with efficiency. Herbert possesses ideal poise in the pocket when pressured, and is unafraid of stepping up and taking the necessary contact to make a completion. Herbert's possesses excellent arm strength, able to throw quick strikes with great velocity and distance. Arguably his greatest attribute is his mobility, which is best displayed when executing playaction rollouts, where he excels at pushing the ball downfield. He is deceptively fast when running with the ball, if the opportunity presents itself.

Weaknesses:

Herbert's accuracy continues to be a concern, despite the improvements he has made since his sophomore season. His biggest issue in the aspect relates the opening of his hips before the throwing motion; as a consequence, his passes are not consistently accurate. Due to his height, Herbert has a slight tendency of overthrowing receivers. In terms of ball security, Herbert is susceptible to getting the ball stripped of his hands when running with the ball.
