Brooks is a productive, versatile athlete that can produce at multiple spots. During the season, Brooke played in the middle, outside, and edge position. In coverage, Brooks has gifted feet and is comfortable with coverage duties in wide areas. He possesses excellent closing speed and range, which he uses to chase down running backs, and putting pressure in the backfield. Brooks is highly productive as a tackler, finished the 2019 season with 108 total tackles; a good nose for the ball and does not hesitate to attack when the opportunity presents itself. Brooks physicality is controlled and used in the right measure.
His noted difficulties disengaging from blocks and taking on bigger linemen, could be attributed to his lack size and length. Blitzing from the edge is a notable weakness, as he possesses few pass rush moves or bend. Brooks pad level on tackles are at points a concern, as he can be too high and get pushed. Though he has improved his playmaking abilities from his sophomore year, he tends to leave big plays out on the field, due to taking poor pursuit angles, or blitzing the wrong gap every so often.
