Player Description:

Name: Julian Blackmon

Position: Defensive Back

College: Utah

Uniform Number: #23

Class: Senior

Height: 6'1

Weight: 204 lbs

Strengths:

Blackmon is a big, rangy, and athletic defender, who possesses a combination of finesse with calculated physicality. Noted versatility, Blackmon is capable of producing at both safety spots, and at cornerback. In man coverage, Blackmon excels at being aggressive at the line when playing press, displays quick feet and reasonable transition from backpedal. As a safety, Blackmon possesses excellent downhill speed, able to cover a lot of ground in a few strides. His overall tackling is strong; his pad level is ideal, he is physical when engaging, and generally finishes his tackles.

Weaknesses:

Blackmon's aggressive approach often leaves him vulnerable to getting beaten downfield. Noted when playing a free safety, he has difficulty recognizing cover schemes, and his responsibility of providing support over the top. Will often take risks due to his aggressive nature, which makes him susceptible to getting beaten over the top. His awareness at the safety position is questionable, as he is susceptible to play action fakes and other coverage-manipulating tactics by opposing quarterbacks.
